Dallas Park and Recreation Department Maintenance Services and volunteers are planning to replace aging and declining trees at White Rock Lake on Saturday, November 9. Trees Please! will bring about 100 volunteers who represent East Dallas support groups, adjacent neighborhoods, and conservation organizations to plant 150 trees in The Big Thicket on the lake's east side near Buckner Blvd. and Mockingbird Lane. Karen Woodard, who oversees the urban forestry program for the City of Dallas says:
"The Big Thicket was chosen because of the aging trees and the number of trees that were removed over the years and because of the invasive species that have plagued the area. Over time, age, diseases, and extreme weather conditions create the need for reforestation so that the next generation can enjoy the natural beauty of White Rock Lake Park."
At the request of Karen Woodard, the fall tree planting is limited to 100 volunteers. Don't miss your chance to help!
